My Recent Online Activity – 19 May 2013

I have been quite busy of late – though not directly on the portal site. A lot of my activity online has been around my Blogs and reading interests. Pretty much all of the Blogs have been posted to over the last several weeks, with just a couple that haven’t had any posts at all (those associated with news from actual websites that I still haven’t got around to updating).

Goodreads

I have been slowly adding my books to the Goodreads site and hopefully this will continue – there are so many to add. Of course I have also been updating the books I’m reading as I make progress on them.

The Particular Baptist Reading Group that I host via Goodreads is soon to kick off (at the end of May 2013), so I have a little work to do for that – which I may get finalised today, all going well. This will probably involve yet another wordpress.com Blog, which will make it so much easier to host the content of the reading material for the group. The various discussion points will be hosted at Goodreads I think, or perhaps a combination of the two. I’m quite looking forward to getting this work up and running.

At the BookShelf

At the BookShelf now has its own domain name – which I thought would be a good thing as it is my most popular Blog. I do hope to continue to develop this Blog and grow its user base.

The new domain is:

Fully Functional

I have now finished the immediate task at hand – the site is all fully functional again. I will be doing a fair bit of updating in the days, weeks, months, etc, to come – adding new sites and content, but that is more fun than work.

Kevin’s Portal: Work Has Begun

Yeah – I have been able to start work on getting the Portal back online and updated. I’m particularly concerned with getting the basics back up and running before I get too tricky with sprucing the site up with a lot of photos, videos, etc. At least each page should be working properly again soon.

The home page has been completed, as well as the photo and video pages, accessible via the directory in the left-hand column. All my video sites are included (I think), but only a small portion of photo-related sites that I currently use. I have also removed a number of redundant sites that are no longer in existence.

The home page has seen a few changes, with all of the social media buttons and widgets removed, the various Blog feeds are now all in the right-hand column and I have removed everything Facebook with the exception of the Facebook link in the site directory. I think this is a far better and working format then I had before.

Evernote: My Go Everywhere Memory & Favourite App

Evernote is my go everywhere memory and as such is my favourite and go to app. It is the best software I have ever come across and that I value the most. However it is not just one product or app now, there are a range of apps that are constantly being improved and seemingly added to. It is an exciting journey of discovery with Evernote and their various apps when you use them all of the time – you never know when the next update will become available or when a new app will be released.

It is difficult to describe why I love Evernote and what I use it for. There seems to be a myriad of ways to use Evernote and discovering a new use is just another of the attractions of Evernote. It seems to be an app that is perpetually making my life easier and clutter free even. Evernote can be used on a whole variety of apps and syncs across them all. A truly fantastic tool.

However, along with most of my web applications and apps, I have fallen behind in my use of Evernote and have a bit of catch up to do. In order for me to achieve this I am turning to the Evernote Blog and the podcasts that provide fantastic updates across all of the apps, uses for the various apps, etc. I am very keen to have a good grasp of the various apps and to have an ability to use them all to their full. They really do make life easier.

So currently I am listening to the podcasts (many of them again – they are entertaining in themselves) and reading the blog posts.

The videos will provide a bit of an introduction to Evernote. I highly recommend becoming familiar with the various Evernote apps and making them a part of your own life, productivity and organisation.

The videos below are by no means the end of the Evernote range of products and tools, but they do provide a good introduction to many of them.

With the Passing of Time so Much has Passed

For reasons I have no real inclination to get into at the moment, I haven’t been doing a lot on the web for some time – for a couple of years really. I have several Blogs that I have continued to maintain, but my websites, web applications and various social networks have all been let go and allowed to go to cyberspace fallow.

Hopefully all of that is beginning to change. I have awoken from my slumber, though I’m still in that place where I could easily go back to sleep if I don’t cultivate my regathered interest in all things online where I have a presence. It has been a measured return, taking just small steps and moving towards much larger ones. Enthusiasm is gathering pace and interest is quickly returning.

How things have gone by the wayside though with the time that has passed. Warmly embraced places I called home have ceased to be – Glitch, Accomplish, etc. Others have moved on with great panache, making significant strides into their future and obviously mine as I try to make up for lost time. Such small amounts of time on the Web can mean tremendous change and movements forward, that one can be easily left behind and seemingly struggling to make up the lost ground. Such has been the case with Evernote, my all time favourite app and others also. Of course a whole host of new and amazing social networks and web applications have burst onto the scene as well and I am very keen to find out more about plenty of them.

So for a fresh and renewed start, the Blog here has also been revitalised with a coat of new paint and trim. I am keen to get started again and have a whole wonderful bag of new toys and tricks to check out via my various saved bookmarks, with a good number of them to be added to my Portal home. Some will also need to be cleared out as they have greatly diminished with the passing of time and others have simply died and disappeared into the annals of cyber memory, never to rise again.

Kevin’s Portal: Today’s Updates

I have completed a number of updates to the site today. These include the following:

  • the removal of all Google Buzz buttons and replacing them with Google+ buttons.

  • I have removed the CatchFree web application/site, as I no longer use this (from the general page).

  • I have added thankuz.com to the emails and communications page. Thankuz.com is a web application that provides an online avenue for passing on thank you note to others.

Kevin’s Portal: The Latest News

I have had an extended break from much of my online web presence over the last 6 months, so plenty has changed over that time. Not necessarily intended change on my part, but change there has been. I have had to change hosting companies on some sites, web applications and social networks have come and gone, undergone change, etc. So as try to put all of the pieces together again, I will try and keep things updated on my progress in this Blog.

Kevin’s Portal: Shelfari Removed

I have just removed Shelfari from my social networks and web applications at Kevin’s Portal. I am no longer using this site and have posted about it at my Blog ‘At the BookShelf.’
