Kevin’s Portal: A Lot More Done

I have been able to have a close look at most of the site now, removed dead links, etc. I think it’s fair to say that the site (Kevin’s Portal) is pretty much up-to-date for the time being, as far as what was already there anyway. I have a lot of new stuff to add in coming days and weeks, but the basic site is all there and working now. It wouldn’t surprise me if there is something that was missed, but most will be right.

Fully Functional Site

Well, after many years of frustration the final piece of my web presence has fallen into place. I have always wanted to have a personal profile website where I could post links to all of my online profiles, websites, Blogs, etc. I tried to do this on the cheap by using a free web hosting service and paid what was probably always going to be the price – a lot of down time and the site disappearing without explanation. So finally I have my own domain and have begun hosting the service at the same place as my other sites – should have done this all along. Now I feel I can begin to make real progress right across the board, as I no longer have to be frustrated by changes being unable to be uploaded, etc. My sites are generally knit together to some extent, so this has been a major issue for all of my sites for a long time – not anymore. So time to start making some real progress again.

Kevin’s Portal is now live – again, fully functional (though some links to other places may be dead – I’ll be checking all of these very soon and repairing, replacing or deleting as required) and a continual work in progress as various social networks and web applications appear, meet their end and/or no longer serve a purpose in my world wide web dominion.

And We’re Back Again

Finally, the site is back up again, though at a new domain – it will take a while to get everything back up again, but I am working on it. It will take even more time to have this new domain name across all my sites, but the end result will be worth it. Getting there.

Website Issues

I am aware that ‘Kevin’s Portal’ isn’t up at the moment – it seems that for whatever reason the host has shut up shop. All I know is the site is down and has been for some time. There have been problems for a long time and I have been thinking of moving it for some time – it will certainly be happening soon. I will be moving it to the hosts I use for my other sites (which have always been good – So there will be plenty of changes coming soon – including an actual working website).

Sprung From The Ashes Of Formspring, Raises $5M To Create The “Friendliest Social Network”

This is one of the social networks/web applications I use.

TechCrunch, the new social network that was previously Formspring, has raised a total of $5 million in debt and equity seed funding from investors including Right Click Capital, Tank Stream Ventures, Nextec Strategic Capital, and Rubicon Project Founder Craig Roah. The company plans to use the funding to expand in the U.S., where it just launched.

Formspring’s demise was due in part to the site’s accidental role in faciliating cyberbullying. Though, which currently claims five million regular visitors, acquired the Formspring website and database, it wants to create a completely different reputation for itself by becoming the world’s “friendliest social network.” The site lets users engage in Q&A discussions and group chats, share photos and opinion polls, and send private messages.

One of the first anonymous “ask me anything” platforms, Formspring shut down in March 2013. The closure was partly due to increasing competition from similar…

Some Changes

I think you can expect to see some changes on some of the websites and Blogs I run in the very near future, including the website this Blog is associated with. Kevin’s Portal has become something of a frustration with me, as I have been unable to update any pages for a while. Indeed, the books page will not update and has even been deleted, without me having any ability to fix the problem – so it is likely that I will be changing hosts very soon. This will also mean a change in URL. So please keep an eye out for that as I won’t be able to change things on the website as it currently stands – i.e. keep an eye on this Blog.

Another big change – at least for me – will be the way I do Blog posts right across the board. I have a large number of Blogs which I post to on a regular basis which takes up a fair amount of time. I want to cut back a bit on the time I chew up doing this, as well as the amount of time I spend online. Therefore I am looking at taking two days a week off from Blogging and possibly at least one of those days from the Internet all together, just so I can do other things – like have a life🙂

More on these things to come – I need to think a little more about each.

The Peripatetic Ponderings of a Passing Person

I have been using Flipboard a fair bit lately, which is basically a web application/service for curating news articles online in the form of an online magazine/newspaper. I have several various online magazines/newspapers via the Flipboard service.

The online magazines/newspapers that I have developed using Flipboardinclude the following:

  • Australian News
  • My World
  • Australia Wild
  • Cricket Monthly

The archives for each of these online magazines/newspapers can be found at:
