Reviewing & Updating

It has been a long time since I visited this Blog and/or visited ‘Kevin’s Portal.’ I am however in the process of reviewing and updating the entire site. There are a lot of social networks and web applications that have ceased to exist, so all of these links are being removed. I’,, probably be adding a few new ones along the way also.

Probably the biggest news at the moment as far as my websites are concerned is that I have completely reviewed and updated ‘Kevin’s Wilderness Journeys,’ which can be visited via the link below:

Kevin’s Portal: A Lot More Done

I have been able to have a close look at most of the site now, removed dead links, etc. I think it’s fair to say that the site (Kevin’s Portal) is pretty much up-to-date for the time being, as far as what was already there anyway. I have a lot of new stuff to add in coming days and weeks, but the basic site is all there and working now. It wouldn’t surprise me if there is something that was missed, but most will be right.

Fully Functional Site

Well, after many years of frustration the final piece of my web presence has fallen into place. I have always wanted to have a personal profile website where I could post links to all of my online profiles, websites, Blogs, etc. I tried to do this on the cheap by using a free web hosting service and paid what was probably always going to be the price – a lot of down time and the site disappearing without explanation. So finally I have my own domain and have begun hosting the service at the same place as my other sites – should have done this all along. Now I feel I can begin to make real progress right across the board, as I no longer have to be frustrated by changes being unable to be uploaded, etc. My sites are generally knit together to some extent, so this has been a major issue for all of my sites for a long time – not anymore. So time to start making some real progress again.

Kevin’s Portal is now live – again, fully functional (though some links to other places may be dead – I’ll be checking all of these very soon and repairing, replacing or deleting as required) and a continual work in progress as various social networks and web applications appear, meet their end and/or no longer serve a purpose in my world wide web dominion.

Website Issues

I am aware that ‘Kevin’s Portal’ isn’t up at the moment – it seems that for whatever reason the host has shut up shop. All I know is the site is down and has been for some time. There have been problems for a long time and I have been thinking of moving it for some time – it will certainly be happening soon. I will be moving it to the hosts I use for my other sites (which have always been good – So there will be plenty of changes coming soon – including an actual working website).

Some Changes

I think you can expect to see some changes on some of the websites and Blogs I run in the very near future, including the website this Blog is associated with. Kevin’s Portal has become something of a frustration with me, as I have been unable to update any pages for a while. Indeed, the books page will not update and has even been deleted, without me having any ability to fix the problem – so it is likely that I will be changing hosts very soon. This will also mean a change in URL. So please keep an eye out for that as I won’t be able to change things on the website as it currently stands – i.e. keep an eye on this Blog.

Another big change – at least for me – will be the way I do Blog posts right across the board. I have a large number of Blogs which I post to on a regular basis which takes up a fair amount of time. I want to cut back a bit on the time I chew up doing this, as well as the amount of time I spend online. Therefore I am looking at taking two days a week off from Blogging and possibly at least one of those days from the Internet all together, just so I can do other things – like have a life 🙂

More on these things to come – I need to think a little more about each.

Social Change & Activism

I have been doing a little work on updating the Social Change & Activism page at Kevin’s Portal. I have added links to Avaaz and The Noticer Project, which I think are worthwhile enterprises to be involved with.

I am looking for ways to actively take part in making this world a better place to live in and to be a part of, aside from my Christian activities and responsibilities.

I hope to find real ways of contributing at the local, regional and national level (and do what I can in a global sense as well), particularly on the environmental side of things. My particular interest here is the conservation and preservation of bushland and wilderness areas.

Of course I do hope to contribute and participate in other areas as well.

Fully Functional

I have now finished the immediate task at hand – the site is all fully functional again. I will be doing a fair bit of updating in the days, weeks, months, etc, to come – adding new sites and content, but that is more fun than work.

Kevin’s Portal: Work Has Begun

Yeah – I have been able to start work on getting the Portal back online and updated. I’m particularly concerned with getting the basics back up and running before I get too tricky with sprucing the site up with a lot of photos, videos, etc. At least each page should be working properly again soon.

The home page has been completed, as well as the photo and video pages, accessible via the directory in the left-hand column. All my video sites are included (I think), but only a small portion of photo-related sites that I currently use. I have also removed a number of redundant sites that are no longer in existence.

The home page has seen a few changes, with all of the social media buttons and widgets removed, the various Blog feeds are now all in the right-hand column and I have removed everything Facebook with the exception of the Facebook link in the site directory. I think this is a far better and working format then I had before.
